Amer Fort is not just a historical building but also tells the story of the Kachwaha dynasty's rule, royal lifestyle and Rajput architecture.
What is the history of Amer Fort?
The present form of Amer Fort developed mainly in the late 16th century during the reign of Raja Man Singh I. Later rulers, especially Mirza Raja Jai Singh I, also made many constructions and expansions in it. Amer remained the capital of the Kachwaha Rajput rulers for a long time. Later, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II founded the city of Jaipur in the 18th century and shifted the capital from Amer to Jaipur. The fort was constructed keeping in mind the hilly terrain. Its strong walls, high gates and strategic location made it important from security point of view. A beautiful combination of Rajput and Mughal styles is visible in its architecture.
The most popular parts of Amer Fort include Sheesh Mahal. Small mirrors and decorative carvings have been done on its walls and ceilings. These mirrors shine when the light falls on them and make the entire room attractive. Sheesh Mahal was a part of the palace complex of the royal family. Its decoration reflects the skill of the artisans of that time and the artistic interest of the royal family. This is one of the most visited parts of the fort.
